When do I need dethatching?
Your lawn feels spongy
That springy feel can be a sign thatch is building up between grass and soil.
Water runs off or pools
Thatch can block water from soaking in, leading to runoff or uneven moisture.
The lawn looks dull or thin
If turf struggles to green up, dethatching can help nutrients reach the root zone.
Note: Dethatching is available as an add-on for customers on our weekly mowing program.
FAQ
Dethatching removes the built-up layer of dead grass and debris (“thatch”) that can sit between the soil and the green grass.
If the lawn feels spongy, struggles to green up, or water seems to run off instead of soaking in, dethatching may help.
Typically spring or fall, depending on turf type and condition. We’ll recommend timing during your estimate.
Usually it’s an as-needed service, not weekly. Many clients do it seasonally or when buildup becomes noticeable.
